Speakers at the 3rd TEF Conference on Education in Teso 2023

Teso Education Fund (TEF) will hold its 3rd annual conference on education in Teso sub region, Uganda. The conference will be online and will be on Saturday 15/04/2023 starting at 8:00 AM UK Time / 10:00 AM UG Time. The conference is open to the public and is free to attend.

The theme of the conference is: Innovative ways to fund education in Teso, Uganda.

The objectives of the conference are:

  1. To review the current standard of education in Teso sub region of Uganda focusing on the results of PLE, UCE, and UACE 2023.
  2. To explore innovative strategies to fund education in Teso sub region and Uganda, generally.
  3. To appraise the performance of Teso Education Fund in improving education in Teso in the last 2 years.
  4. To identify strategies to accelerate the improvement of education in Teso sub region and Uganda, generally.

The conference will have 4 sessions.

The introductory session chaired by Mr Martin Omagor, Chairman of the Regional Advisor Committee for TEF in Soroti will commence with a welcome by Ms Francis Atima, the Chairperson, Board of Trustees, TEF Uganda who will welcome participants.

The second opening presentation will be a keynote address delivered by Professor John Charles Okiria, the Chairman Allied Health Professionals’ Council, Uganda and proprietor of Kumi School of Nursing.

The second segment of the conference chaired by Ms Christine Alupo, a trustee of TEF Uganda will explore the situation of education in Teso by looking at the performance of students from Teso sub region during the 2023 results of PLE, UCE, and UACE.  This session will be delivered by Dr Joseph Opul, Country Director, Quality Education Consultancy.

This second session on contemporary situation of education in Teso will be followed by an appraisal of the performance of TEF over the last 2 years which will be delivered by Dr Patrick Igulot, the Executive Director. As part of the impact of TEF, the conference will then hear testimonies from some of the current and former students sponsored by TEF.

The third segment chaired by Mr Robert Ochai, a trustee of TEF Uganda focusing on planned strategies will commence with a presentation by Uganda Technology and Management University (UTAMU). This presentation will focus on the degree scholarship partnership between TEF and UTAMU. This session will be delivered by Professor Eddy K. Tukamushaba, Vice Chancellor.

This will be followed by a presentation by Kampala Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) presented by Dr Josephine Mukwaya Ojangor, the principal and one of the directors. This presentation will focus on the proposed partnership between TEF and KIST to offer diploma and certificate scholarships.

This segment on interventions will close with a presentation by Uganda Nurses and Midwives Association (UNMA), UK. This presentation will highlight the strategies to education and training adopted by UNMA. This presentation will be made by Ms Elizabeth Pearson, the co-president of the Association.

The last session chaired by Mr Constantine Okwii, the newly appointed Minister for Information and Guidance in Iteso Cultural Union will explore ideas on how cultural institutions can contribute to funding education in Teso.

The conference will then be closed by His Highness, Emorimor Papa Iteso, Paul Sande Emolot Etomeileng, the paramount chief of the Iteso people.
